People encouraged to use new website to send a real card for $1
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2011--
Friday, December 9 is the postmark deadline for all cards being sent to
the U.S. military through the annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program run
by Pitney Bowes and the American Red Cross. With just days to go,
Americans are encouraged to send a card through the program’s new
website, www.mailforheroes.com,
which allows a person to send a real card online for $1. The card will
be printed with your personal message and delivered to the P.O. Box
where all cards are being sent.
The Red Cross sorts the cards and delivers them to military bases and
hospitals, veteran’s hospitals and other locations in the U.S. and
abroad during the holidays. Pitney
Bowes donates all screening, packaging and shipping.
“It’s simple to give the gift of thanks this holiday season,” said
Sherri Brown, senior vice president of Service to the Armed Forces at
the American Red Cross. “So many people have supported this program over
the years, and we hope people continue to share their greetings and
gratitude with our service men and women this holiday season.”
“We added the online feature as a way to make it even easier to send a
card with messages of thanks and holiday greetings, said Matthew Broder,
Vice President, External Communications, at Pitney Bowes. “We’ve created
four beautifully-designed cards especially for our troops. A person can
go online, select a card, write a personal message, hit send and for
only $1 a real card will the card be delivered to the P.O. Box for
distribution.”
Since 2007, more than 3.5 million cards have been collected and
distributed through Holiday Mail for Heroes.
