Mail has Better Chance of Getting There and Getting Opened With Newest Addition to Pitney Bowes Family of Addressing Solutions
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1999--
SmartMailer(TM) LT Software Cleans and Verifies Each Address Saves
Time and Money and Makes Mail More Effective
Research studies have reflected that 7.5% of unendorsed Standard Mail (A) never reaches the intended audience due to bad addresses, and another 17% is thrown away unopened. To give businesses a better chance that their mail will be delivered and read, the Mailing Systems Division of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) has introduced SmartMailer(TM) LT Address Management Software. SmartMailer(TM) LT enables businesses to easily produce mailing lists that are deliverable, and this software also enables users to qualify for postal discounts. Then, when used in conjunction with an AddressRight(TM) Envelope Printer, SmartMailer(TM) LT makes mail more effective by improving the openability of each and every envelope with crisp and clean inkjet printing.
SmartMailer(TM) LT Software cleanses, corrects and verifies mailing
lists that are stored on PCs. Included with this CASS certified
program is a CD-ROM holding every deliverable address in the United
States. The software matches the address on the mailer's file list to
one on the CD-ROM, verifies the address accuracy and then adds the
correct postal codes. If no address match is found, the software
automatically presents similar address choices, so the user can select
the correct one.
"SmartMailer(TM) LT allows users to focus on growing their
businesses with promotional mailings instead of worrying about
outdated lists or rectifying misdirected mailings," said Kevin Weiss,
Vice President, Marketing, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "Our
technology enables users to generate mail much easier, qualify for
postal discounts, and it even helps to get the mail delivered. When
the mail means business, smart mailers address it for success."
The SmartMailer(TM) LT Address Management Software works with the
Pitney Bowes AdressRight(TM) W650 Printer; and these complete systems
deliver high-quality, direct impression, inkjet envelope printing.
This is important because a 1998 NFO Research Inc. study found that
U.S. consumers are more likely to open an envelope bearing a direct
impression address rather than an envelope with an address label. And,
AddressRight(TM) printers are available for mailers of every size, so
large and small businesses can benefit from having highly openable
mail.
"Businesses need to consider the first impression that their
mailpiece makes on a recipient," said Weiss. "Working in tandem with a
Pitney Bowes AddressRight(TM) Printer, SmartMailer(TM) LT gives mail
that professional look that says 'open me' by eliminating costly and
unsightly labels, creating eye-catching envelope graphics and by
ensuring that the address is correct."
A complete SmartMailer(TM) LT system can help companies get their
dmail processed faster by the U.S. Postal Service. The software
converts addresses to the standardized format recommended by the USPS
for automated handling, applies the ZIP+4 Code and then the envelope
printer adds the appropriate POSTNET barcode for each verified
address. This allows mail to be automatically scanned, processed and
delivered by the USPS - sometimes one day faster. This can be
significant as a recent Gallup Study of financial executives at large
and mid-size firms found that companies could realize up to a 1%
increase in net profits if payments were received just one day sooner.
Getting mail into the recipient's hand faster can help do just that.
SmartMailer(TM) LT also enables businesses to qualify for postal
discounts with a variety of presort methods. This includes sorting for
Automation First-Class Letters and Cards, Standard Mail (A) letters
and Regular and Non-profit rates. This PAVE certified program creates
the postal reports and tray labels required to obtain these postal
discounts.
