Pitney Bowes and Secure Document Systems Announce an Agreement That Will Reengineer Check Creation; Two Leaders Combine Their Respective Technologies to Create a Unique System

    Business Editors

STAMFORD, Conn. and JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) and Secure Document Systems, Inc. (SDS) announced today an agreement that will enable the two technology and service companies to leverage their respective strengths to offer the DocuMatch(TM) Integrated Mailing System with Secure32.

The result is a unique, turnkey solution that enables accounting departments to quickly automate production, printing, and mail preparation of payroll checks and accounts payable transactions.

System Redefines Traditional Accounting Tasks

Recognized worldwide as a leading developer and marketer of mail and messaging management systems, Pitney Bowes identified the need for a product that could simplify and expedite the time-intensive processes required to produce ready-to-mail accounts payable and payroll checks. Its solution is the DocuMatch System, which is now available in all major metropolitan areas. To drive the check printing applications on the DocuMatch(TM) System, a robust software application was required. Pitney Bowes selected SDS' Secure32 application, a Win 95/98 and NT-based software program. Secure32 transparently interfaces with all of today's business accounting packages, and it produces laser printed checks in a completely secure one step system. Mainframe and other non-host based accounting systems will also interface with DocuMatch.

"Pitney Bowes is essentially redefining the total business process, and laser check printing is the starting point," stated Kevin S. Weiss, Vice President, Marketing Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "Today there are over 200,000 mid-sized accounting departments, and many of them are desperately seeking new solutions to streamline their workload and eliminate the manual steps required to get a check out the door. DocuMatch with Secure32 will achieve this for them at the touch of a button."

DocuMatch(TM) is capable of handling 1,000 to 35,000+ items a month, depending on the customer's requirements, and the system is secure enough for use in a distributed network printing environment with multiple remote locations accessing it. And, with easy-to-use menu driven prompts, virtually anyone with PC experience can operate the DocuMatch(TM) System. In fact, even with feature rich software from SDS, installation time for the system to be operational is estimated to take about three to four weeks with only one day of training required for a typical accounting staff.

Neal G. Anderson, President of SDS, adds, "Secure Document Systems has spent over 10 years developing and perfecting financial document printing solutions, and our partnership with Pitney Bowes proves that our products can adapt to any financial requirement. DocuMatch with Secure32 finally meets the security and confidentiality needs of today's check printing, accounts payable and payroll departments. The System will be able to create checks, add glossy inserts, fold and insert, and prepare them for mailing -- in one step and with 100% accuracy."
