Pitney Bowes Announces Four New Promotions in the Corporate Legal Department

    STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1999--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced several key promotions in the Corporate Legal Department. Robbie E.B. Narcisse and Laurie E. Brecher were each promoted to the position of Deputy General Counsel, reporting directly to Sara Moss, Vice President and General Counsel, Pitney Bowes. Russell C. Hochman was appointed to the position of Associate Deputy General Counsel, and Bob D. Mannis, Associate General Counsel, will now assume responsibility for Mergers and Acquisitions within the Corporate Legal Department.

In her duties as Deputy General Counsel, Corporate, Robbie E.B. Narcisse will manage all the corporate attorneys who support the company's global business activities. As such, she will work closely with the senior executives responsible for each business to assure continued high levels of service. Narcisse will also continue to be responsible for providing legal support to U.S. Mailing Systems and Pitney Bowes Canada.

Laurie E. Brecher, also promoted to Deputy General Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory, will be responsible for all significant Pitney Bowes domestic and international litigation, as well as intellectual property litigation. In this position, Brecher will work closely with Worldwide Postal Market Development and U.S. Mailing Systems for legal review of regulatory matters, including legal issues relating to the U.S. Postal Service and other regulatory agencies.

Russell C. Hochman was appointed to the position of Associate Deputy General, Corporate, and will oversee the administrative functions of the Corporate Legal Department. Hochman will continue with his responsibilities for Europe, Africa and Middle East, Latin America and Production Mail.

Bob D. Mannis will undertake the Corporate Legal Department responsibility for Mergers and Acquisitions. In this role, Mannis will interact with company executives charged with creating and implementing strategy and new business initiatives through acquisition and other forms of corporate ventures. He will retain responsibilities for Asia, Australia and Japan, Software Solutions and the Mail Creation Group, and will also continue in his responsibilities for Pitney Bowes Management Services and Production Mail.

Before joining Pitney Bowes in 1989, Robbie Narcisse worked for the New York law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. She earned a Masters and Bachelors Degree with honors from Stanford University and a J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley.

Laurie Brecher joined Pitney Bowes in 1997 from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she served as Senior Trial Counsel and Chief of General Crimes, and had previously worked for the law firms of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, and Howard, Darby & Levin. A Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude graduate of Union College, she received her J.D. cum laude from New York University Law School, where she was the Senior Articles Editor of the Law Review.

Prior to joining Pitney Bowes in 1997, Russell Hochman worked at the law firms of Kelley Drye & Warren and Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon. Hochman was a cum laude graduate of Cornell University and received his J.D., also cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University, where he was the Executive Editor of the Law Review.

Bob Mannis joined Pitney Bowes in 1996. Previously he was Vice President and General Counsel of Sanofi Winthrop, Inc. He was a cum laude graduate of Rutgers University and received his J.D. from Georgetown University, where he served on the Executive Board and was an editor of the Law & Policy in International Business Law Journal.
