Pitney Bowes Announces Key Appointment in Management Services Division

    STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1999--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced today the appointment of Karen M. Garrison as President, Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS). PBMS, one of the fastest growing divisions of Pitney Bowes, provides customers with value-added mail and document-management services either on-site or at off-site Management Services centers. The division is the outsourcing leader in the legal market and a leading provider to Fortune 500 companies.

In her new role, Ms. Garrison will focus on continued business expansion in the corporate sector, and will emphasize customer satisfaction, employee development and strategic leadership across the business. Ms. Garrison succeeds David Rupert, who has left the company to pursue an exciting opportunity with VANTAS Incorporated, a fast-growing market leader in the executive office suites industry.

Prior to her new appointment, Ms. Garrison served as Vice President, Operations, Pitney Bowes Management Services. She joined Pitney Bowes with Dictaphone Company in 1978 and has since served in several management roles with increasing responsibility.

Ms. Garrison received a B.S. in Accounting from Rollins College and an Executive M.B.A. from Florida Institute of Technology; she has served as an Adjunct Professor at both institutions. She also serves as a Board Member for the Girl Scout Council.
