STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 8, 2000--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that it has become a founding sponsor of GreenBiz.com, a new online resource center that offers a wealth of free information to help companies align environmental responsibility with business success. Hosted by Green Business Network, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that brings environmental information, resources, and tools to the mainstream business community, GreenBiz.com targets businesses, allowing them to access via the World Wide Web information from other companies, government agencies, business groups, activist groups, academic institutions, and other organizations. Information on GreenBiz.com is free, requires no subscription, and is presented in a user-friendly, easy-to-navigate environment and is searchable in database form.
"Pitney Bowes has seen the benefits achieved by creating environmentally sound business practices," stated Michael J Critelli, CEO, Pitney Bowes. "Our sponsorship of GreenBiz.com is a perfect way to share with customers, vendors, and employees our notion that environmental responsibility is more than `the right thing to do'--it can also improve business performance."
Among the resources offered are: Business Toolbox, containing more than 100 reports, backgrounders, and how-to articles; Government Gateway, featuring descriptions of 300 government programs that help companies improve their environmental performance; and Awards Directory, detailing dozens of national and local award and recognition programs that honor environmental leadership companies.
Additional features include a daily news service on environmental business topics, monthly columnists, an electronic newsletter, an events calendar, and bookstore.
"There is no easy way for many companies to access the overwhelming amount of information on business and the environment, and harness it to gain business value" says Joel Makower, president of Green Business Network. "GreenBiz.com solves this Information Age challenge by providing businesses with content, context, and contacts."
Says Makower, "We're proud of our partnership with Pitney Bowes to help the business community create business value through environmental responsibility. Pitney Bowes' commitment to GreenBiz.com is consistent with its long-time record of environmental leadership."
