Company Commemorates Two Decades of Tutoring and Mentoring

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct 25, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- At 4:15 p.m. students from Springdale Elementary School and employees from Pitney Bowes will meet at Pitney Bowes' headquarters in Stamford, CT, to celebrate the 20^th Anniversary of the Learning Is for Everyone (LIFE) Tutoring Program.

The LIFE Tutoring Program first launched in 1991, connecting employee volunteers from Pitney Bowes and students from Springdale Elementary School for tutoring. Twenty years later, the program continues to serve students residing in Stamford's South End community. Since the program's inception, more than 600students have benefited from extra academic tutoring each week. This type of enrichment program is also aimed at supporting efforts to close the achievement gap in Stamford public schools.

Mr. Martin will distribute books from Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) to the children and talk with them about the importance of education. Interim Superintendent Dr. Winifred Hamilton, Springdale Principal Anne Downey, Pitney Bowes executives and Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) Executive Director, Sue Rigano, will be present.

The LIFE Tutoring program is organized by SPEF each year in partnership with Pitney Bowes and Springdale Elementary School. The program supports SPEF's commitment to connecting corporate volunteers and community resources with Stamford Public Schools. Pitney Bowes employees continue to be strong advocates for the LIFE Tutoring Program. Many volunteers renewed their commitment to the program this year.

About Life Tutoring Program:

The LIFE Tutoring Program's weekly, one-on-one, hour-long tutoring sessions include homework help, reading aloud, and time permitting, educational games. Students join the program as they enter 3^rd grade and continue until they graduate from 5^th grade. As many of the children in the program come from homes in which English is a second language, a Bilingual Specialist attends LIFE Tutoring to connect the weekly sessions with in-school instruction and ensure effective communication with parents and caregivers.
