LANHAM, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 2009--
Volunteers from Pitney Bowes Government Solutions (PBGS) and their
families are pitching in to assist during the reconstruction of The
Fishing School, a Washington, DC-based organization that assists needy
children and their families, as part of the ABC television show,
“Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” PBGS is a wholly owned subsidiary of
Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) and a corporate supporter of The Fishing
School through the company’s Community Investments program.
Jon Love, president, PBGS and a board member of The Fishing School,
mentioned that the school was selected by the show’s producers as one of
two facilities in the Washington, DC-area that will receive a makeover.
“Pitney Bowes is proud of its contributions to the school and looks
forward to being part of this very exciting project,” said Love. “Thanks
to the generous contributions of local businesses as well as scores of
individual volunteers, the community that The Fishing School supports
will benefit greatly from this makeover.” He noted that the Pitney Bowes
volunteers will assist by hosting various VIPs who visit the site during
the reconstruction. Pitney Bowes is also an on-going supporter of the
school and has provided assistance in obtaining resources.
Tom Lewis, founder of The Fishing School, stated that the newly-built
facility will usher in a new beginning for The Fishing School. “Our new
facility will allow us to nearly double the number of children and
parents we serve. With this expansion however, comes an urgent request
for donations to fund the new programs, purchase additional supplies and
hire additional staff that the new center will enable,” he explained.
“On behalf of the Fishing School, I am grateful to the producers of
‘Extreme Makeover’ for this wonderful opportunity, and for the
assistance corporate partners such as Pitney Bowes have provided so that
we can continue our mission of helping less fortunate children in the
community.”
About The Fishing School
The Fishing School provides a safe haven, caring adults and academic
support for vulnerable children and youth, ages 6-12, and empowers them
to open doors to limitless possibilities. Its name and philosophy is
inspired by the adage, “If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for
a day. Teach him to fish, and he will feed himself for a lifetime.” The
Fishing School’s updated adage is, “Teach a child to fish, change a
generation.”
