Pitney Bowes Named #1 Transportation Management System Supplier for Fourth Consecutive Year

Pitney Bowes' Recognized for Shifting Its Mailstream Marketing Messaging 'from
                        the Mailroom to the Boardroom'

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that it has been named the leading global supplier of transportation management systems for the fourth consecutive year, according to a Transportation Management Systems Worldwide Outlook study by ARC Advisory Group. The rank is based on revenue from software license, service, maintenance and recurring fees. Pitney Bowes became the market leader in 2003, due in part to its portfolio of parcel shipping, receiving, and mailstream solutions.

This annual global market study by ARC Advisory Group has become an industry benchmark for ranking market strength and positioning for transportation solution providers. ARC defines Transportation Management Systems as solutions that facilitate the procurement of transportation services; the short-term planning and optimization of transportation activities, assets and resources; and the execution of transportation plans. In addition to managing the physical flow of goods, these systems also manage the flow of transportation-related information, documents and money. Transportation Management Systems also include performance management and collaboration capabilities. ARC segments the TMS market into six high-level solution types, including Planning & Execution, Parcel Shipping, and Fleet Management.

"From an overall corporate perspective, Pitney Bowes has been progressively shifting its marketing message from the mailroom to the boardroom as it communicates the value of 'mailstream' to corporate executives," said Adrian Gonzalez, Director of ARC's Logistics Executive Council. "The connection between mailstream with business value becomes more evident when the mailstream is viewed as a key enabler of specific business processes such as sales, marketing, new product introduction, or account receivables."

ARC cited the following efforts undertaken by Pitney Bowes in the past year:

    * Moving from the mailroom to the boardroom via mailstream message

    * Product enhancements to its suite of shipping solutions including DHL
certification, Internet solutions for package shipping via the USPS, and
continued enhancements for shipping in Canada and European countries,
      and

    * Previewing an integrated, modular shipping solution that fulfills the
company's objective to bring its various shipping software capabilities
      onto a single platform.

"As ARC points out, cost control is becoming a greater challenge to companies as they are faced with increasing prices on fuel, insurance, maintenance and labor," said Johanna Boller, Vice President of Enterprise Software Product Management for Pitney Bowes Global Mailstream Solutions. "Our solutions are designed to give customers a competitive edge in defeating these issues via highly integrated TMS systems that promise the highest level of security, efficiency and cost-effectiveness possible."

Key attributes of "Best in Class" TMS suppliers include:

    * The ability for multiple companies (and users) to concurrently use the
system within a single collaborative network.

    * The ability for users to dynamically configure the system based on their
      roles.

    * The ability to interface with the system using any device and
      communication protocol.

    * Appropriate security controls to prevent unauthorized transactions or
      access to data.

ARC Advisory Group calculates base year market size in terms of calendar year revenue by industry participants, not by booking orders. Market data is provided based on licenses, services, maintenance, and recurring revenues (e.g. transaction, subscription and hosting fees); hardware revenues are excluded, along with margins earned by system integrators, distributors, and other third-parties involved in product distribution.

The ARC Market Outlook Study, entitled "Transportation Management Systems Worldwide Outlook: Market Analysis and Forecast Through 2010," reports that the global TMS market grew to nearly $990 million in 2005, up from about $910 million in 2004. ARC forecasts that the TMS market will exceed $1.3 billion by 2010, representing a cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) approaching 7 percent (based on 2005 figures).

The study also includes market data by solution type, geographic region, customer tier and vertical industry plus forecasts and supplier profiles. Additional information can be obtained at http://www.arcweb.com.
