One of only 10 Companies Ranking High for Board Diversity
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 4, 2009--
Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI),
the world’s leading mailstream technology company, today announced that
it has been ranked 27 out of 50 on the Diversity MBA Magazine’s
“Best Places for Diverse Managers to Work” list. The award listing is
based on the organization’s commitment to global diversity and
leadership development opportunities for women and people of color.
Pitney Bowes will receive its award at the magazine’s 2009 Awards Gala &
Leadership Forum in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 2009.
“At Pitney Bowes, we realize our greatest asset is our people,” said
Susan Johnson, Vice President, Strategic Talent Management and Diversity
Leadership, Pitney Bowes Inc. “We recruit, mentor and retain diverse
talent to ensure that we develop the managers, leaders and systems
necessary to maintain diversity of thought and talent for more robust
programs and services.”
The Diversity MBA Magazine results were based on an evaluation of
retention, inclusion practices, recruitment strategies and
accountability. In addition, diversity programs, representation in
management of women and people of color and a pipeline for diverse
managers were criteria considered. An internal validation method using
management and board diversity representation was also used.
Pitney Bowes’ diversity and inclusion practices are incorporated into
the organization’s business strategy, thanks to the creation of a
Diversity Task Force in 1993. This task force created a vision statement
and strategic planning process that required each line of business to
develop measurable goals to create and sustain a diverse environment.
“Pitney Bowes has a longstanding commitment to diversity,” said Pam
McElvane, publisher & CEO, Diversity MBA Magazine. “The company has
evolved along with the expansion of our surveys and continues to rank
among the top companies in developing their people for leadership.
Making the top 10 companies for board diversity further illustrates
commitment from their top leadership. Clearly, this is an organization
that embraces diversity and inclusion within their culture.”
