Pitney Bowes Office Systems Introduces Mid-Volume Digital Copier/Printer Solutions for Corporate Workgroups

TRUMBULL, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2001--

DL460 and DL550 Help Consolidate Hardware and Lower Costs

Pitney Bowes Office Systems today introduced two new solutions for decentralized corporate workgroups, the DL460 and DL550 digital copier/printers. At 45 and 55 copy/page-per-minute speeds respectively, the DL460 and DL550 are mid-volume, 600 dpi black-and-white digital gateways designed to reduce workflow bottlenecks and increase productivity in multi-user environments.

Positioned as central communications hubs for corporate workgroups, the DL460 and DL550 are digital solutions that consolidate hardware, lower costs and increase the efficiency of entire workgroups. Both models may be configured to support digital printing, desktop faxing and network scanning capabilities in addition to a wide range of accessories that provide advanced walk-up copying and finishing features.

"The DL460 and DL550 represent the next generation in the growing line of Pitney Bowes digital multifunction solutions. They bring a new level of consistency to the entire DL Series product line," commented Nathaniel Gifford, vice president, Marketing and Product Development for Pitney Bowes Office Systems. "Our best of breed product selection strategy dictates we source only the best solutions available. The DL460 and DL550 meet our stringent criteria and complete Pitney Bowes Office Systems' digital product family. We now have comprehensive solutions at every critical speed and volume point from 25 to 75 cpm/ppm, all offering consistent features and user interfaces."

The primary differentiators between the two units are speed and volume requirements. The DL460 is ideal for cost-conscious customers with lower monthly impression volumes of up to 200,000 pages per month. The DL550 offers an incremental 10-cpm/ppm boost in speed, and is more appropriate for larger workgroups processing up to 350,000 pages per month. Modular in design, the base units can be configured with a wide range of accessories to meet specific customer applications. Chris Dewart, vice president of Commercial Sales, believes such versatility is critical. "Our field customers have told us that modularity is an absolute requirement in meeting their needs. The ability to build a unique solution around a proven base engine makes Pitney Bowes solutions flexible and more affordable for our customers." Indeed, the DL460 and DL550 take the concept of modularity to new heights.

The DL460 and DL550 may be configured with a 100-sheet Electronic Document Handler, multiple paper handling and/or duplexing options, and one of four output options with a range of finishing modes and capacities. Benefits to users include the availability of up to six different paper size/orientations in the unit at all times, minimal paper reloading chores and the ability to complete in-house those jobs requiring advanced finishing.

Productivity enhancing features are enabled by the DL460/DL550's expandable memory capabilities that store scanned documents in digital form. A Reserve Job function allows users to scan up to five copy jobs into memory, and then let the machine run unattended. This feature saves several hours per week for users who previously may have spent 15 - 30 minutes at the copier running multiple jobs. Its Scan Once/Print Many technology reduces feeding jams, and lets users retrieve originals immediately so they may return to other tasks. The DL460/DL550 can also reorder stored pages in memory and output documents as paginated booklets--one of the most popular applications in today's desktop publishing environment.

For corporate decision-makers and purchasing professionals who want the added convenience and cost savings realized by bringing complex print jobs in-house, having a copier/printer with robust finishing features is essential. Both the DL460 and DL550 may be configured with output options that meet customers' simple collating and stapling needs, or execute sophisticated hole punching, saddle-stitching and folding capabilities. In situations where the DL460/DL550 is utilized as a shared network printer, employees may utilize the Mailbin Finisher to select a specific bin for print job destinations, avoiding misplaced or lost documents.

"For the DL460/DL550, we offer two print controllers that meet our customers' demanding criteria for network printing applications. Both are fully functional, meaning they drive the DL460/DL550 at their rated machine speeds, and completely support every document and image manipulation feature," continued Gifford. "We recognize the importance of seamless network integration and full functionality. Our service and support network is fully trained to ensure our customers get the most value out of their investment in Pitney Bowes digital technology."

Both controllers enable printing over the most popular Windows and Macintosh network environments and operating systems, including Windows 2000. The Connex Print Controller will support Pitney Bowes' FaxConnex and ScanConnex utilities that enable the DL460/DL550 to serve as fast and flexible shared network scanners and PC faxes. A Fiery Print Controller is specifically designed for customers who regularly print complex Adobe PostScript 3 files.
