Pitney Bowes Office Systems Launches Flagship High Volume Digital Copier/Printer Solution; DL750 Offers Cost Effective Alternative For In-house Publishing Applications
TRUMBULL, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2001--Pitney Bowes today introduced its new flagship digital copier/printer, the DL750.
Operating at 75-pages-per-minute, the DL750 is a cost-effective workhorse solution built to meet the rigorous demands of high volume environments such as centralized reproduction departments, facilities management firms and corporate workgroups.
With a 550,000 maximum monthly impression volume, the DL750 is well-suited to augment strained capacities in busy centralized environments at a much lower cost relative to installing a second duplicator. "The DL750 raises the speed and volume ceilings of our digital copier/printer solutions," stated Nathaniel Gifford, vice president, Strategic Marketing, Pitney Bowes Office Systems. "With the DL750, our customers can now complement overutilized high-volume duplicators and implement a volume-splitting strategy to reduce stress on equipment. The DL750 is also an appropriate solution to replace obsolete high-end devices in environments where impression volumes have dropped enough to make it difficult to justify the continued use of expensive, underutilized duplicators. In either case, the DL750 is an affordable alternative," said Gifford.
Advanced finishing modes including the ability to create saddle-stitched booklets will bring new applications in-house. The DL750 is also a sensible solution for customers who may have overestimated speed and volume requirements on their existing high-volume copiers and want to reduce their investment in copier/printer hardware without sacrificing image quality or finishing capabilities.
"The DL750 complements the recent introduction of our high volume duplicator, the ProDoc 110. By pairing these two solutions, or through adding tandem copying capabilities to the DL750, Pitney Bowes Office Systems can be a viable partner to those customers with impression volumes over 1,000,000 per month," furthered Gifford.
The advent of sophisticated word processing, presentation and document layout software has driven the demand for output devices capable of producing professional-quality documents in-house. The DL750 answers this need with the input, throughput and output versatility required by busy production environments. Its digital platform supports a robust feature set that lets users reduce total job turnaround times, lower operating costs, maintain confidentiality and deliver sophisticated image and document manipulation capabilities once available only from commercial printers.
An Electronic Document Handler (EDH) feeds originals at the rated machine speed of 75 cpm/ppm, and leverages the DL750's Scan Once/Print Many feature. Originals can be scanned and collected immediately, and the DL750 left unattended to complete the programmed task. Job Store Mode allows users to combine originals from different sources, or build documents exceeding the 100-sheet capacity of the feeder, and print them as a single job--solving a common problem in high volume centralized environments where high-page-count originals are the norm.
High volume environments also demand solutions with flexible, large capacity paper supplies. The DL750 meets these needs with a standard 5-way, user-adjustable 2,350-sheet paper supply plus an option for a 4,400-sheet tray to boost maximum paper capacity to 6,750 sheets. Every DL750 paper source accepts up to 110 lb. Index stock to produce jobs with covers, tabs and inserts. It can even accommodate stocks up to 11" x 17" for bleed printing applications common to many graphic environments. Standard Stackless Duplexing technology enables the DL750 to produce up to 9,999 sets of one- or two-sided output in a single job, allowing high volume customers to maximize productivity.
Most desktop laser printers do not offer access to two-sided printing and other sophisticated finishing options. Users must create a master and go to nearby copiers to complete their project. This results in lost productivity, lower image quality and inflated costs. For companies who lack these resources in-house, it means sending potentially sensitive information out for reproduction. The DL750 eliminates all these issues by enabling users to initiate jobs from their desktops and produce first-quality output quickly and easily.
Advanced document finishing capabilities found in the Multi-position Stapling Finisher provide for 8-position stapling, and the DL750 can produce saddle-stitched, folded, paginated professionally-finished booklets of up to 64 pages automatically when configured with the Multi-position Stapling Finisher with Folder. The DL750 offers added versatility through a Trimmer Unit option that cuts the "creep," or stair-stepped effect off the open end of multi-page booklets. A Post Engine Cover/Sheet Insertion Unit lets users incorporate pre-printed pages (such as color covers printed on a color copier) into finished document sets.
When connected to a network, the DL750 is transformed into a robust 75 ppm digital printer, letting customers leverage their investment over multiple applications and users. "The DL750 makes all system capabilities accessible directly from the desktop. Any connected user can program advanced paper selections, manipulate images and select the full array of finishing functions right from their PC," said Gifford. "Pitney Bowes has partnered with industry leaders to deliver state-of-the-art print controller solutions exclusively for use with the DL750."
When installed as a connected digital laser copier/printer, the DL750 streamlines service and support issues, reduces the cost and space required to inventory supplies for multiple devices, and provides advanced document finishing and image manipulation capabilities. Two print controller options will enable seamless connectivity into networks running the most popular operating systems including multiple versions of UNIX, Windows, Novell and Macintosh. Pitney Bowes Office System's Connex(TM) Print Controller solution positions the DL750 to serve as the high-speed printer in data center applications. Connex allows users to print documents from legacy systems, and enables the consolidation of unique devices previously required for disparate data streams. Connex supports several page description languages such as PostScript(TM) Level 2, PCL5e, PDF and TIFF. A new controller co-engineered with Electronics For Imaging, the Fiery X3 Print Server with WebTools(TM), is an ideal solution for companies requiring Adobe(R) PostScript 3(TM) output.
Remarked Gifford, "Companies spend up to fifteen percent of their operating revenue managing documents. Reducing those costs just one percent can deliver huge savings to their bottom line. Pitney Bowes and the DL750 will go a long way toward helping our customers accomplish that objective." About Pitney Bowes Office Systems
