Pitney Bowes Receives Workplace Safety Award for OSHA Star Status

Safety Record at Monsanto Site 85 percent Better Than Industry Average

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2008--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) has been named a "Star Among Stars" award winner by a regional association for its Star status with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The regional association's "Super Star" award is presented to companies with OSHA health and safety rates more than 75 percent better than the national average. Pitney Bowes is one of only two companies within region VII to receive the "Super Star" award.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Pitney Bowes Inc., Pitney Bowes Management Services has 75 employees in St. Louis who are responsible for receiving, mail, warehousing, transportation and distribution for Monsanto, an agricultural customer. Pitney Bowes achieved a recordable injury/illness rate of 1.63 in 2007, which was 85 percent better than the industry average. The company also reported on-the-job restriction days for injured employees as 1.63, which was approximately 79 percent better than the national average.

The award will be presented to Pitney Bowes by the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association at its regional conference in Des Moines on May 21. Pitney Bowes received OSHA Star status in 2007 for its customer site in St. Louis, which is the highest level of safety and health recognition awarded by the federal agency.
