Pitney Bowes Intranet Nominated for Communications Award - Pitney Bowes Management Services' Intranet Brings It Closer to Customers

STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced today that the Pitney Bowes Management Services Intranet Site has been nominated for an International EMMA Award (Electronic Multimedia Award) for excellence in digital media content creation in the category of Internal Communications for its online Intranet site. The award showcases the unique functionality of the site and PBMS' ability to successfully integrate operations and connect a distributed work force.

"With over 1,300 client sites around the world, it was important to create a management tool that would web-enable our business processes," stated Karen Garrison, president, Pitney Bowes Management Services. "Our proprietary set of Business Practice Standards enables our sites to run efficiently. However, these standards were developed in paper form. Our goal with the Intranet was to build a suite of tools to facilitate seamless implementation of the standards and reach higher goals for running the business."

Developed through a partnership with Oberon Interactive, a leading Internet professional services company based in Toronto, Canada, the site creates a new sense of community among the many client sites and includes peer-to-peer information and resource sharing that has helped push business processes to a high stage of evolution. The new site brings added functionality to business processes that includes:

  • A database to facilitate information and sharing of reporting tools between management and customers

  • Integrated tools that flag problems, send alarms, and reminders that helps user initiate appropriate problem solving tools

  • Tools such as "BPS Cafe " (peer-to-peer bulletin board) that facilitates communication amongst globally distributed offices.

  • User centric interface and information architecture that paces focus on the user.

Although the first phase of the Intranet has focused on site-level managers, the database will eventually provide a wealth of information that can be mined by higher levels of management. This includes the ability to view trends and comparative reports for individual sites, as well as cities, regions and other national accounts. In addition, back-end systems integration, HR recruiting and customer focused extranets are currently in development.
