Pitney Bowes Named Market Leader in Parcel Shipping Solutions by ARC For Second Consecutive Year

Company Also Listed as Top Transportation Management Systems

                          Provider in North America

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that its Distribution Solutions division has been named the market leader in parcel shipping solutions for the second straight year, according to a new transportation management systems (TMS) worldwide outlook study by ARC Advisory Group. ARC lists Pitney Bowes as the number one supplier of parcel shipping solutions, with more than double the worldwide market share of its nearest competitor in 2002. ARC derives market share figures from license, services, maintenance and recurring revenues.

Pitney Bowes also received top listing as the leading supplier of TMS software in North America for the second consecutive year. According to the ARC study, North America is the largest region for TMS, accounting for approximately 69 percent of total worldwide revenues for TMS software in 2002. In addition, the company was listed as the top Tier 2 and Tier 3 TMS provider in the world. Tier 2 customers are defined as those customers with annual revenues between $250 million and $1 billion. Tier 3 is defined as customers with less than $250 million in annual revenues.

"Our formula for success has been to leverage our large sales force to sell innovative shipping solutions to customers that are already using our mailing solutions," said Stephen Smith, president, Pitney Bowes Distribution Solutions. "By continually enhancing our offerings with products such as DeliverAbility, an enterprise-wide, multi-carrier shipping system, we can help customers engineer the flow of their shipping operations to reduce costs and enhance efficiency."

"As a leading TMS vendor, Pitney Bowes has a broad solutions footprint and large installed client base," said Adrian Gonzalez, Senior Analyst, Supply Chain & Logistics, ARC Advisory Group. "These attributes, along with the company's financial stability, continue to play a critical role in defining its long-term success."

ARC provides forecasts for strategic planning through the year 2006, in order to show long-term trends in the transportation marketplace. The TMS worldwide outlook study is intended to serve as a planning tool for suppliers, users and companies thinking about entering the global TMS market.

Pitney Bowes received additional top listings in the manufacturing, high tech, and food and beverage industry sectors.
