Enhanced Technology Allows Shippers Using Pitney Bowes Software to Control Costly Residential Surcharges

Pitney Bowes Shipping Software Now Includes RDI(TM) Residential Delivery

                                  Indicator

STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pitney Bowes (NYSE: PBI) today offers customers an enhancement to its Ascent(R) Package Management and PB TMS transportation management software that includes RDI(TM) Residential Delivery Indicator. The technology provides insight into carrier surcharges that may apply to residential deliveries so that shippers can compare charges from multiple carriers and identify the best rates and service.

The residential home delivery business is a fast growing, competitive market, in part because of the increase of Internet shopping and home businesses," said Johanna Boller, Product Management Director, Pitney Bowes Distribution Solutions. "Our customers need to make informed shipping decisions about the costs of residential deliveries and RDI provides better information upon which to base their shipping decisions."

While some carriers may bill users a surcharge for residential deliveries, the Postal Service(TM) delivers to every address in the United States without any surcharges. RDI data, supplied directly to customers via a licensing agreement with the Postal Service, gives Ascent(R) and PB TMS software users more information about shipping fees by automatically determining if the USPS(R) considers the address to be residential or commercial. With this information, shippers can better identify the complete cost of shipping to the address.

Ascent(R) and PB TMS software users will have access to RDI starting on September 1 by purchasing the new tool. Other Pitney Bowes shipping system products will offer the RDI tool in the future. To learn more, call Pitney Bowes Sales Support at 1-800-888-6226 or visit http://pb.com.
