Pitney Bowes Named #1 Transportation Management System Supplier for Third Consecutive Year

Pitney Bowes also Ranks as Leading Provider of Parcel Shipping Solutions

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that, for the third consecutive year, it is ranked as the top supplier of transportation management systems according to a Transportation Management Systems Worldwide Outlook study by ARC Advisory Group. Pitney Bowes moved from its top five ranking in 2002 to its position as the market leader in 2003, based on software license revenue, services, maintenance and recurring fees. Pitney Bowes also retained its position as the top-ranked provider of parcel shipping solutions in the United States.

"Attributes shared by the leaders in this industry include a global presence, broad solution footprint, and large installed client base," said Adrian Gonzalez, director of ARC's Logistics Executive Council. "Pitney Bowes embodies all three and continues to make progress on its strategy of integrating products and services into a complete end-to-end solution from mail and package creation to final delivery."

This annual global market study by ARC has become an industry benchmark for ranking market strength and positioning for transportation solution providers. ARC defines Transportation Management Systems as solutions that aid in the planning, optimization and procurement of transportation services and activities.

ARC cited the following as significant efforts undertaken by Pitney Bowes in 2005:

* Continuing to move its solutions suite onto a common technology platform (Microsoft .NET), which simplifies product development and maintenance.

* Introducing a browser-based online postage option for DeliverAbility(TM) Enterprise Package Management solution.

* Introducing the DeliverAbility global shipping application to meet the needs of parcel shippers in Europe.

* Adding Residential Delivery Indicator capabilities to its Ascent(TM) Multi-carrier Shipment Management solution and PB TMS(TM) Enterprise Transportation Management solution. RDI enables customers to better estimate the cost of shipments to a particular address.

"Budgets are tight, fuel costs are rising, security is a concern and globalization is a reality," said Johanna Boller, Vice President, Enterprise Software Product Management, Pitney Bowes Global Mailstream Solutions. "Our focus remains on providing solutions that are more efficient, useful, secure and cost-effective for our customers and enable them to meet the challenges of shipping globally."

ARC calculates base year market size in terms of calendar year revenue by industry participants, not by bookings or orders. Market share figures are derived from license, services, maintenance, and recurring revenues (e.g. transaction, subscription, and hosting fees); hardware revenues are excluded, along with margins earned by system integrators, distributors, and other third parties involved in product distribution.

The ARC Market Outlook Study entitled Transportation Management Systems Worldwide Outlook: Market Analysis and Forecast through 2008 is a global study of the transportation management solutions market. The study also includes market shares by solution type, geographic region, customer tier and vertical industry plus forecasts and supplier profiles.
