Pitney Bowes Named One of Connecticut's Fastest Growing Technology Companies
STAMFORD, Conn., Oct 13, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- For the second consecutive year, Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) has been named to Deloitte's prestigious Technology Fast 50 Program for the Connecticut Region, a ranking of the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in the area by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. Rankings are based on the percentage revenue growth over five years from 2001-2005.
The honor is especially significant because big percentage changes in revenue are harder to achieve as a company grows. Pitney Bowes is by far the largest company to make the Connecticut list, and is more than twice the size of the next largest company. Overall, the company grew by more than one-third between 2001 and 2005.
"One of the greatest challenges of succeeding in any industry is finding ways to unlock growth," said Pitney Bowes Chairman & CEO Michael Critelli. "Our strategy has led us to find the fastest-growing niches in the global mailstream, and enabled us to capitalize on these opportunities to our customers' and shareholders' benefit."
The global mailstream comprises the flow of mail, documents and packages between organizations and customers, including both physical and digital communications, according to Critelli. Pitney Bowes is pursuing mailstream technology and solution opportunities through a carefully-crafted strategy of targeted acquisitions and a refreshed product line which, combined, are enhancing organic growth rates.
To qualify for the Connecticut Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2001 and $5,000,000 in 2005, be headquartered in Connecticut, and be a company that owns proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology or intellectual property in a unique way does not qualify.
Winners of the 16 regional Technology Fast 50 programs in the United States and Canada are eligible to be entered into the Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 program, which ranks North America's top 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies.
