Mailstream Emerges as Cupid's Secret Weapon For Delivering Cards, Flowers and Gifts
Pitney Bowes Survey Says 86 Percent of Valentines Spend Less than
$100 on the Big Day
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2007--According to a new survey from Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI), 86 percent of American sweethearts will spend less than $100 on their Valentine's Day celebration; and 56 percent will spend less than $50.
Of the 1000 respondents in the 2007 Pitney Bowes Valentine's Day Survey, 88 percent of those surveyed adds a personalized message to their greeting cards. In addition to sending a Valentine's Day card to a sweetheart, 65 percent of parents and children exchange cards.
Of those polled, 55 percent believe that flowers are the number one gift for women on Valentine's Day. Among women, 25 percent report that diamonds are a girl's best friend on the big day. Fewer men agreed at 19 percent.
"The mailstream delivers love letters, cards, gifts and flowers efficiently when sweethearts order them on time," said Juanita T. James, Chief Communications Officer, Pitney Bowes. "Everyone loves the feeling of opening their door to a personal timely romantic gift. Plan a few days ahead to really make an impression."
The survey also showed, unsurprisingly, that men plan to spend more money on greeting cards, gifts, dinner, and other Valentine's related items, than women this year. In fact, both men and women are a little more generous this year, with 70 percent of those men polled responding that gifts purchased will be greater than $20 versus only 54 percent of women. In 2006, 68 percent of men reported spending more than $20 and 51 percent of women.
Pitney Bowes commissioned independent polling firm Ipsos Public Affairs to conduct the survey which had 1,000 participants between January 16, -18, 2007.
