STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2007--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that Dr. Judith Auslander, Senior Fellow, Pitney Bowes, is one of 26 newly elected members of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE). CASE is a private, nonprofit, public-service institution similar to the National Academy of Sciences. Membership is limited by statute to 250 members.

CASE will recognize Auslander at its 32nd Annual Meeting and Dinner on May 22nd at the Hilton Mystic Hotel, Mystic. At this event, the Academy will honor the achievements of Connecticut's student scientists, hear a keynote speech by Dr. Robert Ballard, President of the Institute for Exploration/Sea Research Foundation, and recognize the election of new members.

Members are elected to CASE on the basis of their accomplishments in science, engineering or technology. Scientists and engineers may also be considered for membership by fulfilling the following criteria: 1) scientific distinction achieved through significant original contribution in theory or application; 2) unusual accomplishments in the pioneering of new and developing fields of applied science and technology.

CASE elected Auslander as a foremost expert and pioneer in the area of "postal ink jet inks." During her career, she developed inks with the unique characteristics needed for postal applications, which are different from main stream ink jet inks. Auslander also developed expertise in security inks, as reflected by the numerous patents issued to her in this area. She is an inventor of 31 U.S. patents and has 20 more pending; and author of 23 scientific publications.

Auslander is a Senior Fellow on Pitney Bowes' Technical Ladder, a distinguished career path parallel to the management path, for technical leaders. She is also considered in all respects Pitney Bowes' "chief chemist" and her expertise in postal inks is widely recognized by her peers in the scientific community. Auslander also functions as a strategist in the inks area and when required takes on a project management role accomplishing the Research & Development projects related to postal inks. Auslander holds a Masters of Science in Organic Chemistry and Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
