Pitney Bowes Management Services Employee Named as Employee of the Year in Careers & the disABLED Magazine

    STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 1999--Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS), a division of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI), announced that PBMS employee Robert Garofalo of Putnam Valley, NY, has been named to the Careers & the disABLED magazine's annual "Employee of the Year" list.

Criteria for selection to the magazine's list includes: the individual's contribution to the disability community; the technical and professional accomplishments made by the individual; how he or she has advocated for the betterment of workers, supervisors and managers with disabilities; and how the employee has made other individuals more aware of the needs of people with disabilities.

Mr. Garofalo, a Customer Service Technical Specialist at one of the many business support operations PBMS manages for businesses across North America, was honored at a ceremony in Anaheim, CA at the Abilities Expo, the largest display in the United States of products and services for people with disabilities.

Mr. Garofalo started his career with PBMS in 1988 in support of PBMS' first customer, IBM. He worked in the mail center, operating inserters and small offset duplicators. Mr. Garofalo was then promoted to an IBM on-site location in 1993 and quickly became an integral part of the mailroom operations there. Despite his hearing and speech impairments, Mr. Garofalo interacts with customers and coworkers on a daily basis contributing to the many functions the PBMS department performs. In addition to working in the mailroom, he acts a key player in the shipping and receiving department, as well as the reprographics department.
