Pitney Bowes Delivers `Document Factory` Solutions; Demonstrates Integrated Approach for Delivering Highest Level Of Automated Document Production and Delivery In Any Form
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1999--This week, Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) demonstrated its Document Factory Solutions (DFS), the world's most comprehensive solutions for mission-critical document management. Pitney Bowes leads the market in designing and implementing these advanced solutions, which significantly increase the impact and reduce the operational costs of mail and messaging management.
Pitney Bowes combines hardware, software, systems integration and
professional services to create customized Document Factory Solutions
for managing the production, delivery and remittance of documents in
paper or digital form.
According to Marc Breslawsky, President and Chief Operating
Officer, Pitney Bowes, Inc., "Our Document Factory Solutions is an
excellent example of our ability to provide high value, end-to end
messaging solutions to address the business needs of high volume
mailers. By integrating key resources and capabilities throughout the
company we can provide innovative, cutting-edge solutions that are
critical to how businesses will communicate with their customers and
represent the future of mail."
Large companies are turning to Document Factories Solutions to
constantly nurture relationships with customers through "1-to-1
marketing" and enhance operational efficiencies, such as ERP
initiatives. Pitney Bowes works with large companies, such as U.S.
West, to help develop and implement a DFS strategy.
DFS provides many bottom line and operational efficiencies:
- Reduced per piece mailing cost, with enhanced quality
- Cutting the cycle time through faster production and remittance
- Increased document value through personalization and 1-to-1
marketing
- Integrated control of output streams ensuring the integrity of
the document in both hard copy or digital streams
- Enhanced enterprise knowledge through the monitoring and
reporting of print/finish tracking, quality and performance
To achieve its leading position in DFS, Pitney Bowes leverages
the best practices and technology of its Production Mail & Document
Factory Solutions, Software Systems and Management Services divisions.
Pitney Bowes Production Mail provides pb.commander, a
comprehensive suite of products and services for building and
operating Document Factories. pb.commander includes professional
services, processing technologies, building and floor layout design,
workflow efficiencies, print stream enhancement, high integrity
inserting, Internet bill presentment and payment, financing, and
business recovery. It delivers the best mission-critical documents by
attacking and reengineering the fragmented document production process
and allowing companies `factory control' of document production,
delivery and remittance. It solves the inefficiencies created by
competing cross-functional departments through an integrated approach.
To provide customers with options for document delivery, Pitney
Bowes has developed the Digital Document Delivery system (D3). D3
enables high-volume mailers to use their existing legacy billing and
statement applications to format documents for delivery via the
Internet, e-mail, facsimile or postal mail and to seamlessly add Web
presentation capabilities to their production mail operation. In the
Internet application, D3 posts the statements to a Web server managed
by Pitney Bowes the instant they are processed. An e-mail message is
sent simultaneously to customers announcing that the bill is available
for review.
StreamWeaver(R) is Pitney Bowes' print stream manipulation
software. It enables D3 to operate in both print and digital forms.
StreamWeaver(R) also provides operational efficiencies in high volume
print/finish environments with over 300 custom output options without
changing existing legacy print streams, including:
- The conversion form simplex to duplex printing;
- conversion of OMR to 3-of-9 codes;
- the addition a of a variety barcodes, including 2D and those for
postal automation discounts; and
- the consolidation of individual documents into one mailpiece.
Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS) provides outsourcing
services for the creation and management of Document Factory
Solutions. PBMS can build and operate a client-dedicated DFS or
provide access to shared DFS capabilities. PBMS also offers business
recovery services for document factories. In the event of a natural or
man-made disaster, PBMS is equipped to interface with a customer's
data stream and create, process and distribute important documents
from its dedicated Business Recovery "Hot Site" in Stamford, Conn.
This ensures the uninterrupted and timely distribution of
revenue-generating/mission-critical documents.
In order to manage outsourced document factories with the
greatest accuracy and efficiency, PBMS uses its exclusive Standards
and Best Practices, a set of procedures, methodologies and practices
which ensure all operational activities are completed in a predefined,
controlled and consistent manner. Specific metrics and objectives are
set by the customer and can be measured and tracked to provide
on-going feedback, allowing both the client and Pitney Bowes to meet
the required standards of operation.
