    PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1999--

-- iSend(SM) Brings Secure On-line Document Delivery Capability
For mySAP.com(TM) Desktops Across Corporate America

Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI), the world's leader in mailing technology, today announced it has joined forces with SAP AG to make web-based messaging easier, more reliable and more secure than ever before. Pitney Bowes' iSend(SM) On-line Document Delivery System is now available via mySAP.com(TM) Marketplace; and, together, these services will enable corporations to send and track the delivery of any file securely and reliably to anyone with an e-mail address on the Internet. mySAP.com provides an open collaborative business environment of personalized solutions on demand. This enables companies of all sizes and industries to fully engage their employees, customers and partners to capitalize upon the new Internet economy.

"Inter-enterprise solutions are all about making organizations more efficient, and SAP has expanded its leadership role by adding Web-based communications to its menu of client services," states Judy Martin, Vice President Strategic Marketing, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "The combination of the iSend System with mySAP.com enables businesses, at the enterprise level, to safely transmit time critical and confidential documents over the Internet."

The iSend System is a new Internet-based service that combines the best of e-mail with the best of overnight delivery. iSend, based on Tumbleweed Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:TMWD) Integrated Messaging Exchange(TM) (IME(TM)), enables businesses to securely send and track the electronic delivery of any file to anyone with access to the Internet. Tumbleweed's IME is a set of products and services that leverage the Internet and existing e-mail to enable secure, trackable on-line communications. It's quicker than a messenger, less expensive than overnight express, available around the clock and it's totally secure.

-- Reliable delivery. iSend combines the availability of e-mail with
the more robust file transfer capabilities of the web to greatly
increase the reliability of on-line file delivery.

-- Universal delivery. iSend message recipients require no special
software or proprietary protocols. Anyone with e-mail and web
access can use iSend to send and receive deliveries. In addition,
iSend integrates Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Software to automatically
convert files into a Portable Document Format (PDF), so the
document can easily be viewed regardless of shared applications
between the sender and recipient. Everything from word-processing
documents, to graphics, to legal contracts and even multimedia
files can delivered quickly and easily.

-- Secure delivery. Unlike regular e-mail, sensitive information is
controlled and protected through the iSend System's
point-to-point security - including robust encryption,
authentication and recipient password protection. iSend can also
defend vulnerable e-mail programs from document damage and theft.

-- Controlled delivery. iSend has sophisticated tracking features,
giving senders end-to-end visibility as to the progress of their
     file delivery.

Pitney Bowes will be showcasing iSend at SAPPHIRE(R) '99 Philadelphia, Sept. 13 - 16, 1999 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
