Pitney Bowes docSense Cited by New Killen & Associates Strategic Report on B2E Digital Communications
DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept 5, 2000--In a new study released today, conducted by Killen & Associates, Inc. ("Killen") of Palo Alto, docSense's Digital Document Deliver (D3) is cited as exemplifying "multipurpose digital document delivery" - the solution, according to Killen, that "offer[s] multichannel capability to create, deliver, and receive digital documents . . . the best position to seize electronic B2E opportunities."
The Killen report, "Digitally Delivered Business-to-Employee Communications: The Competitive Edge for Tomorrow's Global Enterprises," estimates that digital delivery of business-to-employee (B2E) communications will be rapidly adopted in the next few years with Global 2000 companies predicted to issue more than 120 billion digital documents to employees by the year 2005. "The Internet has radically transformed the way businesses interact with both customers and suppliers," says Michael Killen, Founder and Chairman of Killen. "B2E initiatives provide global enterprises with a competitive edge by enabling rapid distribution of critical information about products, services, and strategy."
Killen asserts: "Electronic bill payment and presentment and electronic statement presentment solutions vendors, such as docSense, as particularly well positioned to seize the emerging B2E marketplace; the technology required for digital bill presentment and payment is similar in many respects to that necessary for delivery B2E documents."
Karl Schumacher, President of docSense, a Pitney Bowes (NYSE: PBI) business, whose mission is to web-enable the mail expert's many Fortune 2000 customers, said: "Killen shows that there is more to the digital document delivery than the growing business-to-consumer (B2C) market. The fact that there are documents delivered in a number of environments presents an interesting, and enormous, market for digital message delivery solutions."
B2E digital delivery significantly lowers document production costs while also raising the bar high for communication quality and substance. "B2E documents represent an opportunity to communicate real news to discuss real strategic business thinking with people who dedicated themselves to their company," said Schumacher. "Our electronic messaging technology offers immense opportunities for large companies to reduce costs, speed response, improve internal work processes - even to improve the credibility of the corporate messages."
The Killen Report also asserts that companies that have begun to implement electronic bill presentment and payment will have a great advantage, in terms of costs and experience, when implementing B2E communications. Mr. Killen says, "If you invest in a well-architected electronic bill presentment and payment solution, then B2E represents an additional growth opportunity that does not require major new technical investments."
Pitney Bowes, for one, practicing what it preaches, is in the process of implementing a new document distribution system for its own corporate communications using docSense technology. Brian Baxendale, President of Pitney Bowes Production Mail, says: "A major complement of our strategic corporate initiative has to do with web-enabling our products, services, and processes. Pitney Bowes already uses docSense technology to provide electronic statement presentment for Postage-by-Phone. Now docSense is providing us with the flexible output architecture to deliver internal corporate communications through many channels." Killen & Associates
