Pitney Bowes Business Units Combine to Form Document Messaging Technologies Division

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2000--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) has focused its inbound and outbound high volume mail and messaging resources into one Division, Document Messaging Technologies, led by Brian M. Baxendale.

By combining the Incoming Messaging Solutions Group with Document Factory Solutions and docSense, Pitney Bowes will obtain greater focus on customer solutions for high volume mail and document management applications whether they are physical, digital or a hybrid of the two.

"High volume mailers are achieving enormous benefits by implementing a document factory-type of environment for processing outgoing mail," says Baxendale, with lower operating and postage costs, better quality mail, faster turnarounds, improved cash flow, better customer satisfaction, more effective one-to-one personalization, and superior reporting and control. "By integrating our expertise and intellectual property around the full scope of mail processing, we can help our customers implement 'closed loop' solutions that span and link incoming and outgoing mail streams for faster and more effective processing and better custom-tailoring of critical customer communications."

"Customer communications are no longer just a 'one-way customer path' continues Baxendale. "Increasingly, they are key to an ongoing two-way communications process that provides greater value on both sides of the equation. Ideally, the process renews and enriches itself as each outbound message triggers a customer response that lends to a new, more informed new communication from the business. The process repeats ad infinitum as long as it enhances the customer experience."

"The goal for businesses employing this model", says Baxendale, "is continuing customer contact with a stream of outbound messages that are highly targeted to individualized needs, flawless in appearance and assembly, produced promptly, delivered in a manner of the customer's choosing, and structured to facilitate easy payment or customer action".

"Our new organization will enable us to respond more quickly to our clients' needs with seamless technologies and process solutions that encompass both inbound and outbound mail and messages in either traditional paper or the newer electronic forms."

Document Messaging Technologies is a Division of Pitney Bowes, Inc. and a leading provider of hardware, software, professional services and systems integration that enable high-volume mailers to create, manage and deliver highly personalized customer documents via hard copy and digital format.
